In the February 12, 2026 issue of Oman’s leading Arabic-language newspaper Al-Watan, a comprehensive article by Ambassador Rashad İsmayılov entitled “2026 – The Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” was published.
The article explains the significance of declaring 2026 as the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” in Azerbaijan. It outlines the large-scale restoration and reconstruction projects currently being implemented across the country, the application of modern urban planning principles, as well as sustainable development and innovative architectural approaches.
Special attention is given to the extensive reconstruction works carried out in the liberated territories, including the implementation of the “smart city” and “smart village” concepts. The article also highlights the preservation of Azerbaijan’s rich architectural heritage and the importance of international cooperation in this field.
Furthermore, the article emphasizes the key achievements attained under the leadership President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, whose strategic vision and policies have significantly advanced urban development, infrastructure modernization, and architectural progress in Azerbaijan.
