The Sultanate of Oman recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 30, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on July 13, 1992. Since 2002, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has also been accredited to the Sultanate of Oman. On October 30, 2009, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, signed a decree establishing the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Sultanate of Oman, in the city of Muscat. The Embassy of Oman in Türkiye (with its residence in Ankara) is accredited to Azerbaijan. On June 6, 2024, by decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, Rashad Fail oglu Ismayilov was appointed as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Sultanate of Oman.
